Pros

I joined AlixPartners post-MBA, I'm a Senior Vice President in the firm's EI business unit. I did not enjoy my first year at the firm because I felt that I wasn't supported by my team, was not given adequate training and staffed on bad projects without much guidance. I was partly to blame because I did not have the skill-set to produce deliverables. After a year, I learned the skill-set to be successful and switched teams to work with people I trust and who supported me. Since then I've really enjoyed my time at the firm. Pros: (1) self-determined career trajectory and personal growth ie. not an up or out structure (2) compensation is above market (3) fast to results for clients (4) well-regarded firm within certain industries like Private Equity and Retail (5) day to day project work is intellectually stimulating and there's plenty of opportunities to take on more responsibilities if desired (6) investment in tools, processes and people are paying dividends (7) diversity programs are being implemented, I feel the culture is modernizing by becoming less "old school" and male dominated. There's still a lot to progress here.

Cons

(1) New consultant training is non-existent, essentially learn on the job and this can be difficult if staffed on a demanding project and/or given responsibilities not aligned with experience level (2) Work-life balance is difficult to maintain - this job will eat into your weekends and expect late nights on most projects (3) Lack of women and minorities in leadership positions

Pros

Hybrid work model, benefits (lots of paid time off, school tuition reimbursement, medical, dental, vision, insurance, etc.), some great people to work with, possibility to contribute to high level work

Cons

Understaffed, hiring freezes, working with client services who treat you as if you’re lesser than them, untrained managers, no career trajectory, working with incompetent individuals who can’t get fired, takes a long time to make changes/complete projects, unrealistic expectations, corporate politics
