Pros

beautiful building great benefits food on site in busy south lake union

Cons

A peripheral view of the admin team will show you that there is not a single person of color on the highest level of the org. While amongst the sciences there is a spattering of people of color overall the organizations really lacks in diversity. Maybe its science, maybe its just a bias amongst the c-level that perpetuates down to other management structures. There are very few to little opportunities to grow. There are many stories of PoCs who tried to climb up in the organization and were laid off or "re-orged".

Allen Institute Response

There is no question that diversity and celebration of diversity enables success, and I appreciate you sharing what you see. As a new member of the Institute, I am looking at our data from a number of perspectives, and will work with our leadership to ensure improvement. You point out the recruitment tactics as a limiting factor, and we will also take a look in this area. Big changes start with awareness, and I think data helps too.
