Pros

The people in my work group were friendly and cooperative. Alstate is very concerned about balancing work and family life. My manager and director really cared if I was working too hard and took steps to help me balance it out again. There were lots of PTO days and they were easy to take with little advance notice to management. Lastly, my severance benefits including outplacement help were very good.

Cons

If an employee's job at Allstate involves customer assistance or support that job will be outsourced, probably to a call center or India. Allstate has good benefits but the employee's cost of those benefits is too expensive. There are also high co-pays when you visit even your in-plan physician. Onsite day care, oil changes, and dry cleaning are nice to have but are also too expensive. There are no sick days; if you have to miss work because of illness you take a vacation day.

Pros

Large Stable company, decent benefits, provide social gathering opportunities for remote employees.

Cons

Communication is not the best. from leadership down or between departments. Perception is valued higher then performance. Under stress people may turn hostile and the leadership is not equipped to address in well. In case of my manager some of the expectations were not reasonable.
