Pros

The year 2014 marked the final grand end-of-year celebration before the company started to discontinue or prohibit such events.

Cons

The company promises a lot but falls short of meeting its own expectations. During my tenure, I experienced mistreatment, lack of support, and an unhealthy atmosphere that significantly impacted my well-being. Advancement into leadership positions often favors those who excel at ingratiating themselves, rather than being solely based on merit. Unfortunately, the company’s portrayal of work/life balance and commitment to diversity and inclusion does not align with reality. Notably, there is a lack of representation for individuals of Black or Brown ethnicity in positions higher than Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the fraud support team. Unrealistic expectations (e.g., talk time, after-call work) are established and anticipated to be fulfilled, resulting in analysts making errors or inadequately updating notes. Leadership is unavailable for escalated calls and expects analysts to promptly de-escalate, resolve, and conclude calls in their view of a timely manner. Additionally, leadership does not enforce accountability for individual negative actions or mistakes. This could also be why year-end evaluations aren’t done on team leads, senior supervisors, and operation managers by those who report to them. From my perspective, one issue with Ally is the insufficient or nonexistent penalties for toxic managers who exhibit poor behavior. Their actions often go unchecked, leading to negative consequences for employees and the overall work environment. When managers, supervisors, or team leads create a toxic work environment by treating employees poorly or making them feel inadequate, it significantly impacts motivation and productivity. Feeling undervalued or disrespected can hinder an employee’s ability to perform at their best. Unfortunately, not everyone selected for management can effectively manage, and similarly, not all chosen for leadership can truly lead. The mismatch between roles and abilities can significantly impact team dynamics and overall success.

Pros

You get a bi-weekly paycheck.

Cons

The culture has tanked under new leadership over the last couple of years. It’s cutthroat, senior management keeps swapping out experienced leaders for their own people, same values, same bottom line only mindset. No one actually knows what they’re doing because everyone’s expected to do everything and own the fallout when it doesn’t work. Decisions get micromanaged or made behind closed doors about your own team, with no input. There’s constant pressure to cut expenses, and the target seems to double every month, at this rate it feels like the end is inevitable. Layoffs happen a few times a year now, two years running, and leadership straight up tells you it’s the new norm, so get used to it. Everyone knows it, everyone talks about it, and everyone’s living in fear. On top of that, you’re expected to work 12 hour days and answer emails on weekends, then get told you’re still not doing enough. It’s demoralizing. This is an awful place to work, and with the job market this bad, people can’t leave even though everyone’s looking. Feels like a sinking ship, and they deserve it for how they treat people.
