Pros

Working as a Cloud Support Associate in Amazon(again, depends on the team) allows you to learn quite a bit about systems, production principles, and various other concepts used in the development world. If you're stuck in a team like Linux or Networking, you're drifting away from the CS Career paths and going on a complete IT track, which makes it almost impossible to recover and have a development/more technical career path in the long run. If you're in DMS/Big Data/Deployment, you do have chances to learn technologies used at a very large scale, and some of them would be very new to you which is essentially a plus.

Cons

Your managers and peers will micro manage you, and would make you feel suffocated about your own life. You'll be asked to come at random times in the morning(eg: 6am or 7am) for work, you'll be asked to come on weekends to work, stay back late, and they won't even approve your leaves, and they'd deem it as "Business Requirements" when you try to protest. Let's say you come at 7:10am instead of 7:00am, you're showing "Bad Leadership Principles", and you're asked to improve. Your login time, logout time, and hours you spend on every support case is tracked, and they're stalked by your managers and your seniors. If you work on any additional activity(eg: doing development project or taking trainings), after meeting your goals for the month, you'll still be scrutinized and bashed by your seniors for doing so. Also, this is NOT a position of respect. You're just a pawn in AWS' business model, and you're supposed to act like a pawn to aid the organization to churn out revenue. Your targets(metrics) are changed every few weeks, and you're expected to learn new services while having an increased resolve goal. The system institutionalized here will make you lose sanity and will make you frustrated about your life. Work life balance? Boy, that's not a thing here. Your work is your life. You're a call center guy doing technical support(with a above average pay), and you're supposed to act like a call center guy. Tons of people in your team would be frustrated, and we have late shift engineers working often as well. And at times, you're naturally expected to stay back to finish your work, and there's no concept or overtime. This is a toxic place to be at, and I'd not recommend this job to anyone. This job is not advertised like a call center job in the interviews, but it definitely is a stereotypical call center role. In your interviews, the wrong expectations are set, and you'd be tempted to join the company anyways. If you're into development, join a Software Engineering job even if the pay is slightly lower. Trust my advice, this review is the harsh truth.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
