Pros
get to work with upcoming consumer electronics (they are definitely not the biggest, but were visible, which all changed after the fire phone disaster).
Cons
Expect working crazy hours, be on phone after coming home till midnight (if you have to work with China team), travel frequently in economy class (15 hr flights cramped) and except to go to factory upon landing. All the work does not pay off. Expect to be in the same level with getting infinitesimal rises, no bonus, no promotion. The place thrives in ugly politics, brown nosing, in-fighting between teams, which will destroy your ability to do anything. If you get a bad manager, who is unable to stand up to these attacks, along with that person, you too will feel the pain. There is an exodus of folks after fire phone failure. If you are getting what you think might be an unbelievable offer to come and join, then it is too good to be true. They are trying hard to retain folks now. Also, even in the past, when they were doing better, they have an unsaid rule of 10% attrition. They will kick out 10% of the employees every year, it is the way of making you chase the carrot till you find your way out, or they will do it for you. Also be aware that even though Amazon retail might be doing well, the hardware division and their hardware products are not. Just because you see them on the home page of Amazon does not mean they are top seller (in fact the opposite). They never report the number of devices sold for a good reason (if they did, Amazon's stock will tank). They are too much in the red (loosing way too much money and spending way too much for product that dont sell well), that if Amazon was not there to back it up, Lab126 should have declared bankruptcy by now.
