Not horrible - not great. Average. - Lead Programmer Analyst American National Insurance Employee Review

Pros

Local. Not a lot of overtime, so it is a good employer in the area of work/life balance - until you get to the manager level or above. There, you take a pay CUT as far as pay per hour, because they believe they own you then, and regardless of the unreasonable amount of duties they put on you....you either get it all done or you're not "professional". A common corporate attitude, but it's a shame.

Cons

The insurance industry is often behind the times when it comes to employee relations/benefits. American National is no exception.

Pros

The company offers valuable insurance education opportunities and a tuition reimbursement program that supports professional development.

Cons

There is little incentive for long-term loyalty. Compensation appears to be based on legacy pay structures, resulting in new hires sometimes receiving higher starting salaries than long-tenured employees with extensive institutional knowledge and expertise in company processes.
