Pros

I have been working here for several years now. Currently, this organization is going through a positive, revolutionary transition. With the advent of a new CEO in the beginning of 2014, I believe that evolution will catalyze faster. AmeriCares is slowly transitioning from a medical aid and humanitarian aid organization to a more development and program oriented organization, still maintaining its emergency response and humanitarian aid as its strongest base. This is a place to work if you have a passion to work in the humanitarian development and global health fields. People here love what they do, they are an energetic, passionate bunch who truly care. Apart from that, friendly community, great work-life balance especially for females.

Cons

Some departments can seem a little disconnect with the overall mission of this organization. But the higher management is working on regular communication and education.

Pros

Americares is a genuinely mission-driven organization where you have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference while working alongside some incredibly talented and passionate colleagues. The people are what make this organization special, there is deep technical expertise, a collaborative culture, and a shared commitment to improving health for communities affected by poverty and disaster. I've had opportunities to grow professionally, lead strategic initiatives around quality, impact and learning and work across a diverse global portfolio. The organization also offers flexibility through remote and hybrid working, which has been invaluable in supporting work-life balance while collaborating with colleagues around the world. One of the things I value most is that Americares is a highly reflective organization. It doesn't pretend to have all the answers; instead, it continually learns, adapts, and looks for ways to improve. If you're someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working with exceptional people, and contributing to meaningful change, it's a very rewarding place to build a career.

Cons

As with many growing nonprofits, some organizational systems and processes continue to evolve. This means there are opportunities to help shape how work gets done, but it also requires flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work in an environment committed to continuous improvement. The positive side is that you'll be surrounded by talented colleagues who are genuinely invested in making the organization stronger.
