Treating People Poorly is Bad Business - LTO Americold Logistics Employee Review

Pros

Exercise. Most warehouse workers ("pickers") will perform hundreds to well over one thousand lifting motions per shift.

Cons

Work/life balance? Hard to have work/life balance when you don't have a life. Be there every time the company says—your scheduled time off, Christmas Eve, whenever—or be fired. Who knew indentured-servitude was still a valid employment model for 21st century America? Americold has experienced multiple on-the-job fatalities in the last three years, yet working conditions still barely rise to the level of sweat shop . . . with personnel policies to match. All the company seems to know is blunt-force coercion: if treating people poorly doesn't work, we'll treat them worse.

Pros

1. Excellent PTO. 2. Great manager and DO at my location. 3. Decent work-life balance.

Cons

1. Large pay discrepancies between facilities (to the tune of $40k) between associates doing the same job. 2. Frequent implementation of policies or technologies that are either non-beneficial, time wasting, or fixing things that were not broken. I would admit there may be legitimate reasons for a lot of these, but if so they are either being poorly explained or not at all. 3. Failure to recognize the importance of individuals at the site-level and the impact they have in the facility.
