Remote work with some paid training but poor communication - and possibly retaliatory - Academic Tutor Amplify Employee Review

Pros

Some paid training. Some help to create lesson plans. Moderate ability to choose schedule. Mentor coaches are generally responsive to email. Fully remote.

Cons

They do not tell you who your coach/mentor/supervisor person is right away. The training modules are at a set pay time, no matter how long it takes you to read through the training and answer the questions. Amplify stopped communicating with me after I submitted my ADA Request for Reasonable Accomodations reassigned all my tutoring sessions. I am only allowed to accept same-day tutor sessions, and only from the main tutor - which is not how emergency tutoring sessions are assigned. It feels retaliatory. There appears to be very little room to move up.

Pros

There are some very dedicated, talented and well intentioned people who work there. For awhile it felt like the organization was building and doing great things. The salary felt fairly competitive with the industry standard.

Cons

Don't look too closely under the hood if you don't want to stop believing in the illusion. The product is no longer as strong as it once was, the PD and CS have gone way downhill, they care more about profit than people and they are no longer mission driven but success and money driven. They talk a good game, but many people there are ruthless so watch your back. They do a good job of making you feel like it's the best place to work and you are lucky to be there, for awhile, but when the blook is off the rose, watch out.
