Pros
Great medical benefits. Compared to other railroad jobs the schedule is great! It's all shift work. Overtime is optional except in rare cases but I have never experienced mandatory overtime. There are lots of different career opportunities here you can work in transportation you can work in mechanical Department you can work in management of either one or management of overall. Machinist seniority is Nationwide. Railroad Retirement.
Cons
Lots of lazy people combined with poor and scared management causes a situation where leaders will step over a sleepuubg horse to be a nearly dead one. Labor contracts are long and drawn-out when they expire and while you do get back pay it tends to average around three to five years before you get a new contract. If you separated from the company and went to work somewhere else you will not get back pay. Management is literally scared of some craft employees causing the workload to be pushed onto other employees that are actually willing to work.
