Pros

Arch is an exceptional employer in many ways, but culture and management vary considerably by department. I was there for over four years during which time the company grew rapidly. That lead to a lot of opportunities for promotion and growth. Compensation is aligned with the industry and benefits are good. Lots of wonderful smart people to work with, so many possibilities if they could avoid self-sabotage.

Cons

Arch started a digital transformation in 2023, and it has not gone smoothly or according to plan. It has gone off the rails due to siloing of teams into rigid verticals, and each of those groups and their support teams engage in infighting and undercut each other’s success. There is a lot of turnover and new people brought in from large carriers like Liberty and Traveler’s, bringing with them the rigid, hierarchical structure as well as new leaders looking to gain control of key initiatives. It’s fair to say Arch no longer has an organizational culture that is separate from the large carriers they seek to emulate. To summarize, Arch is where you want to go if you want to grow your infighting skills. In addition, Arch’s IT is a massive drag on the transformation, and the tech stack is years behind the industry.

Pros

Work from home, 401k match up to 6% (plus they contribute a separate amount each year), HSA employer contributions

Cons

Work heavily depends on your manager and team. I have had many managers since I started and the culture has shifted from a small, specialty company, to more of a large corporate structure. It used to be very flat and you felt connected to upper management, now it feels more like a firm hierarchy that you have little understanding with.
