Pros

- Working with sick/injured animals. - Allows time to hangout animals. - Nonprofit/Community resource aid. - Company truly cares of wellbeing of animals. - Career growth opportunities. - Consistent schedule.

Cons

- Biggest issue is management: --- High turnover rate in position. --- Extreme micromangement. -- - Little/No trust (spying through security cams). --- Actively discourages teamwork with other departments (EX: Adoptions), creating uncomfortable interdepartmental relations and will scold you if trying to have a proper rapport with fellow staff who you work closely on a daily basis. --- Take on tedious tasks of other departments without proper compensation. - Constantly dealing with incredibly difficult customers daily that turn hostile. - Discourages employees to speak to each other regarding wages since only pay ~13 - 15/hr and doesn't list wages on website. --- Company overall cares more about donor funds/relations (and new building) than the wellbeing of actual staff who does day to day labor. --- Rampant employee burnout w/low morale.

Pros

The mission is meaningful, and the work can be fulfilling for someone who cares about animal welfare, storytelling, and community impact. There are opportunities to create important content around animals, staff, adopters, rescue work, and medical care.

Cons

My experience was that feedback, training, and performance expectations were not clear or consistent. I had regular check-ins and received positive feedback on my work, but when my employment ended, I was given broad criticisms that did not align with the feedback I had previously received. I was meeting deadlines, producing content, and trying to stay aligned with expectations. I did not receive a formal warning or clear corrective plan before termination. I was also told the organization had to make a decision rather than spend additional time training, which was difficult to reconcile with the positive feedback I had received in regular check-ins.
