Pros
State benefits were very good. Many opportunities for learning and growing professionally. Tempe campus is a very nice work environment. Many opporunities to interface with many diverse peoples and cultures. Many discounts to goods and services offered by community merchants are extended to University employees.
Cons
Parking fees are high and go up every year. Disjointed between being a public sector employer and acting like a private sector business. But without any of the benefits, like profit sharing, stock ownership in the company and other financial incentives. Hiring individuals as "contractors" will not save you money in the long run. Since it takes a certain length of time to "learn" the University environment and then be able to actively work in it and make meaningful contributions.
