Pros
Tuition reimbursement is a huge benefit and is why I stayed as long as I did.
Cons
-My unit was the typical over-worked and underpaid cliche. -We were micro-managed to the extreme. I have never seen anything like it. -We were treated like hourly employees instead of salaried. -Processes were pushed out too quickly without thought of proper infrastructures like staffing or technology. This caused an enormous amount of stress for the pro staff which is evident by the number of us who have left over the last year. -For my unit at least, you're only as good as your last mistake. After that, your ideas, thoughts, or contributions are quickly dismissed or marginalized in staff meetings and in one on ones -No pay raises unless the university decided to give merit pay in December. It was never a guarantee. -Management always assumed the worst and attacked you from out of the gate. When you defend yourself, you're accused of being defensive. -Certain managers had excellent job knowledge but horrible managerial skills which were evident in the continually low morale of the pro staff. -Although not required, it would have been comforting if management actually inquired how their staff was doing or feeling. Pro-staff would have appreciated that considering the demands placed on them. It was extremely demoralizing. -The favoritism was incredibly obvious. -For the low pay and extremely slow vacation accrual, it is definitely not worth it. -Information was not decimated consistently. Many would find out after the fact that changes were put in place while others knew immediately.
