Pros
- Opportunities for staff recognition (Star points); On-site gym, free flu shots for employees, great location - Opportunities to interact with team members in Japan and the Netherlands - Facilities, including cafeteria, are very nice - Some departments, outside of APGD, engage in team building off-site events - Site closes the week between Christmas and New Year's
Cons
- Work-life balance is lacking, (especially in clinical function), although frequently touted. Average work week for professions can exceed 80 hours. - Some departments overly dependent upon contract staff and outsourced vendors to the detriment of the business and employees. Overly concerned with risk associated with "common law employees", yet will not add headcount - Human Resources and departmental management tolerate and endorse bullying and threatening behaviors of upper management staff, even after multiple complaints and significant documentation of inappropriate behaviors by staff and contractors. Qualified, long-term staff have been driven out and bullies promoted up and out of departments leaving chaos behind. - Processes, business practices are not completely globalized, which leads to many business challenges - Collaboration on issues with individuals outside of your department is not encouraged in some departments especially if they feel it makes them look bad; consequently opportunities for improvement are lost because available expertise can not be effectively utilized. Staff are afraid to speak out in many cases. - Management skills are lacking in many cases; management by fear is not management; view of staff as expendable is not beneficial to the organizational - Corporate culture becoming more Abbott-centric for the past few years - Have been quietly walking people out the front door over the past year
