Pros
you might be able to get involved with some large, high profile projects The graduate level wages are decent, but they don’t get any better as assistant
Cons
40 hour work week + all the extra time you’re expected to work because they win projects based on an unrealistically low cost. Progression opportunities are non existent, other assistants have left due to this, they only offer promotions once you hand your notice in. Line managers don’t even know promotion process to do anything about it. They put you on projects that take up all your time, then when you ask for recognition they say you’ve spent too much time on that project instead of technical work so no, despite asking for more varied work. They don’t care about your career aspirations or interests. You get put on the work they need you to do for 2+ years regardless of your opinions. There is also no social aspect to Atkins at all and practice manager of the North is rude and unapproachable. Also no bonus to anyone my level this year- the people that do all the hard work get no reward. They claim to be an inclusive employer, but all the ‘board’ remain as old, white men. I dont see how forcing your employees to make up an inclusive objective does anything to help.
