Pros

Avalara will always have a wonderful place in my heart. The work can frequently be psychotic but the culture and people there are wonderful. Sadly, this culture is no more. I unfortunately cannot encourage anyone be consider Avalara due to its stellar former reputation and as a chaotic but fun place to work. Hard work will not be rewarded. You are nothing but an expense to your leadership and the company no longer strives to continue to innovate. The products are no longer the best in breed as they were for so long. It is so disappointing that I cannot in good faith give it the 5 star review that most of my time there was spent experiencing; it is Avalara in name alone now.

Cons

With its acquisition, Avalara no longer values their talented employees and see the product offering as a mature product, no longer requiring elite talent, and only focuses on reducing salary expenses. Do NOT consider Avalara if you are in Seattle as the company has intentionally been trying to reduce their Seattle presence by any means possible.

Pros

Is Avalara a great place to work? It depends on the team you are on. Pros: - I love my team. I have great co-workers. I feel like leadership to the VP level understands the value we bring and advocates for our work throughout the company - I like being able to go into the office and see people and bounce ideas around - My manager is always pushing me to learn new things and get out of my comfort zone - We just got a new CEO and I am super excited about him and his vision. Everyone who has actually been in meetings with him is excited too.

Cons

It depends on the team you are on. Cons: - Some teams are not as curious/helpful as others. I often have to check and recheck the work they do, after I have chased them multiple times to even complete the work - The layoff fear is real, the idea that at any point your position could be eliminated because they want to keep that revenue per headcount KPI down is everywhere
