Pros

There are many opportunities offered to learn new processes at Avery Dennison. Every employee is encourage to take Six Sigma courses and at least get a Green Belt certification. There are also many opportunities to learn Lean and Project Management skills. The only issue with these learning opportunities is finding the time to include them in your daily work load. The engineers and full time Six Sigma employees are the only associates who have time to truly enjoy the many learning opportunities, because they can incorporate their leanings into their daily work load. Avery Dennison is also one of the best paying manufacturing companies in North Eastern Ohio, thus they are always on the list of best companies in the Greater Cleveland Ohio area. These benefits have contributed to many Avery Dennison employees having tenures up to 30 years. In fact every month the Mentor office highlighted the years of service for employees (five years was the minimum number of years recognized).

Cons

The main downside to working at Avery Dennison is the career path or the lack there of a career path. Avery Dennison would be perfectly content if good employees worked in their position for a decade. Every year as part of the performance review process you are forced to document your career goals and the steps you are taking to reach these goals, but these plans rarely lead to a desired conclusion. Avery Dennison also throws a lot of projects and responsibilities at their employees because most departments don’t have enough employees to handle the work loads. They do recognize that most employees are over worked, but they still don’t do anything about it.
