Pros

You get a paycheck? Functional and technical managers are pretty awesome in general.

Cons

If you're a woman, prepare to be offered less. I tried to negotiate a higher salary (by $5k) at the end of my internship and was told flat out, "No, this is all we're authorized to offer." Two male friends had been offered $10k more than I had--they warned me that they'd heard pay was unfair, and they wanted me to know what BAE was prepared to give them. That $10k was before they negotiated, too.

Pros

The hybrid schedule is a major benefit and provides a good balance between in-office collaboration and flexibility.

Cons

Career growth can feel limited if you are not originally from Utah or already connected within the local organization. Time off can feel limited compared to the government customer you support. The customer often receives more holidays and administrative leave, but contractor employees may still be constrained by sector policies even when the contract generally follows the customer’s schedule.
