BB&T is a values driven organization that manages to hold true to those values and does not stray into nebulous realm of doublespeak or propaganda much, if at all. BB&T is a traditional conservative bank that tends to stick to traditional banking models, which allows it to avoid risky, unproven or volatile components of the banking market. The bank verbally values employees and has programs to reward individuals financially for successful or noteworthy performance. The leadership is strong, smart, thoughtful, and honest. The executive management team, especially Allison and King, are exemplary leaders.
Cons
BB&T is a traditional conservative bank, which means it falls behind industry in some ways. While the tradition is often a strong point in fiscal decisions, it is a hindrance in technical development and deployment and utilization of technology. In an industry that values the bottom line, efficiency in the workplace should be a primary component of every job and a goal of every department. Too often, the leadership within the bank fails to realize when ideas need reflection and it seems like as a general rule, workplace decisions are often left untouched for extended periods of time, as people are seemingly content to keep doing what they have always been doing. While the adage dictates that we should expect to get what we have always gotten (if we keep doing what we have always been doing), there are always opportunities for improvement, and they are largely unrealized.
