Pros

It's a great place with lots of upward mobility. The management and associates mingle very often and it's a very family-oriented work environment. Plus it gives you the best of both worlds: "Big 4" exposure to public accounting while also minimizing the extensive travel and work hours. The local firms are too small in my opinion to get the full excitement, while in the Big 4 someone can end up auditing "cash" for weeks! This way even associates here can take part in a full audit with managers and partners.

Cons

Oftentimes the company name BDO is not recognized by others. Even though it's ranked as the top 10 accounting firms in the world, I often have to explain to others that BDO is an accounting firm that is very highly ranked.

Pros

Consultants were not overworked, and people are generally staying in their own lane. Strong knowlegeable teammates and lots of internal resources to grow. Work life balance was good.

Cons

I left during a time of transition, since the top practice director retired and the EBA leader took over as interim leader. This interim guy seemed to be waiting for something to take any action with current resources, and he was not too interested in rallying or figuring things out as a team. If he had expectations, they were never communicated to me. The lack of clarity was very challenging for me personally, and it came off as a lack of support. I think others in the team probably feel similarly.
