Pros

You get opportunities to learn advanced taxation issues. You can't get the same kind of experience from many places. I enjoyed working with most of the people. They have a lot of opportunities to learn in the classroom for continuing education. They make an effort to make sure that you're happy.

Cons

Although they like to market themselves as an alternative to the Big Four, you're still going to work you just as much. They're just not as honest about the time involved. As a tax associate, there were many weeks were my colleagues and I were working 65+ hours. They say they do 55 billable, but that really means you're at work at least 65 hours. Even at the senior level, there was no decrease in time.

Pros

Consultants were not overworked, and people are generally staying in their own lane. Strong knowlegeable teammates and lots of internal resources to grow. Work life balance was good.

Cons

I left during a time of transition, since the top practice director retired and the EBA leader took over as interim leader. This interim guy seemed to be waiting for something to take any action with current resources, and he was not too interested in rallying or figuring things out as a team. If he had expectations, they were never communicated to me. The lack of clarity was very challenging for me personally, and it came off as a lack of support. I think others in the team probably feel similarly.
