Pros
When I began at BECU it was a Credit Union deeply steeped in member and employee values. Lunch with the CEO and Executive Management was part of New Employee Orientation. Everywhere you turned, it was evident that the member was the driving force behind every important decision made. There are a lot of fun activities and focus on employee and member engagement. Member service is of the upmost importance. Community focused philosophy.
Cons
Upper Management does not have any idea what is going on in the front lines. Decisions are often made because they look good on paper or a new employee from a larger institution "used to do it another way and it was better". Nearly all of the time, these decisions are not made by anyone that has actually done the job. This has lead to a HUGE disconnect between staff and management. Also the new managers that are being hired in due to the CEO change are "cleaning house" which in many ways is necessary however, experienced talent is leaving in droves and going to competition. New is not necessarily better. As a member, I feel that I am over promised and under delivered to. The CEO had taped a video a few years back when he was first hired on talking about branch expansion, especially to those of us that live in Pierce County. We are still waiting for that expansion......
