Pros

Strong brand name and global credibility Good exposure to AML, financial crime, and compliance frameworks Structured processes (helpful for beginners) Decent work-life balance compared to many consulting firms Stable organization with clear hierarchies Good for building foundational domain knowledge

Cons

Work can become repetitive and process-driven Limited innovation and creative problem-solving Growth is slow unless you actively switch teams or geographies Feels more like an operations + execution role than a strategic one Learning plateaus after a point Less exposure to business-side decision making

Pros

Some of the internal platforms have dev teams that would rival any other tech company. Can learn a lot if you end up on one of those teams.

Cons

Completely crap shoot as to if you land on a good team or a completely incompetent one. If you're on a bad one good luck. On a bad team you can expect vague work requirements and huge work loads with unmanageable delivery timelines. Also they're outsourcing to India heavily. Also also, most senior management is completely out of touch with reality and don't understand the tech stack they own (more you interact with them the more frighteningly obvious it becomes). HR is completely incompetent, of course, it's an open secret at the bank.
