Pros

- availability of instant coffee machine - free water - friendly secretaries and security staff in building

Cons

- hardly any opportunity for advancement - lots of socializing required at work in order to be recognized and admired by management. - promotions and merit increases are nonexistent. - grad school tuition reimbursement is subject to management discretion...not everyone gets this benefit. Those who are approved and are in classes, take time to study for exams and complete school homework while at work. - diversity is nonexistent: vast majority of employees are male, white, and well under 30 years old. - additional time off requested for personal and/or family emergencies is impossible, and frowned upon by management. Work/life is not balanced. It's all about getting work done. - working from home is a benefit only given to managers. regular employees have to stay in the office for full day - it is nearly impossible to reach those managers working from home via multiple communication means - performance management reviews are a joke. Managers don't spend the time (or any time) describing the accomplishments of their employees so opportunities to be part of the promotion from within program are nonexistent. - food celebration parties are always given for managers; regular staff don't get recognized at all. - training is nonexistent; managers do not train their employees, nor do they encourage learning from among their peers.

Pros

There is real opportunity for career and skill growth. The company runs short on head count, so people willing to take on more responsibilities have avenues to progress. However, you will need to force the issue for promotions & large salary increases after you prove your capabilities. Realistically it'll take an external counteroffer to move the needle.

Cons

It's a large bank and you're a number in the system. If your NPV is positive you'll stay, else you'll be laid off. This includes both scenarios you control and those you don't. Ex. You control your performance, in office time and networking You don't control if your location is a strategic growth site, if a major client goes with a competitor, or if you'd be impacted by a general company-wide layoff plan.
