Pros

Good pay and decent benefits

Cons

Just about everything except the pay. 90% of hourly personnel are the laziest people you would ever meet in your life. Most would not be able to hold a $15 an hour job and definitely would not make it at a real shop. Without the union, they would be screwed. Senority is everything, doesn't matter what you know or how well you do your job its all about senority. If you're a REAL machinist DO NOT COME HERE. You will be absolutely miserable.

Pros

Pay, benefits, and going home at the end of shift are the only good thing about this job.

Cons

Supervisors don't communicate with each other. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing from shift to shift. If you're a woman or person of color, watch your back. Even though there's a union contract that should protect you, it's worthless. If they just don't like you or your political view, they'll fabricate reasons to get rid of you. There's a "salary vs hourly" resentment because hourly gets better pay and benefits through the union. Salary takes that out on hourly. When I was there, overtime wasn't mandatory. That's the only way to have a work life balance, is you get to chose when enough is enough. It's very much a "good old boys club" culture. They make a good show of trying to hire diversity candidates. Again, will find a way to get rid of them as they see fit. They didn't like when I spoke up and told them, it doesn't matter how many women they hire. If we aren't getting the same respect as our male counterparts, it doesn't mean anything. It's such a toxic work environment.
