Pros

Pay and benefits were great. People were nice, although arrogance and egotism seem ingrained in the culture. Work was easy because you are always waiting for someone else to do their job - due to the aggravating level of bureaucracy.

Cons

Little to no opportunities for advancement. Whenever a job does come open managers always seem to think someone from outside could do a better job than anyone already working there. During my tenure with B+L it seemed that they were nearly always in a state of contraction. Due to the economy and a couple of changes in ownership, layoffs were a regular order of business. Layoffs were/are made without consideration of what the organization needed to support the business needs, but rather with the goal of improving some financial statistic. I fear Valeant (the new owners of B+L) will be the end of B+L. Their business model is a house of cards that must eventually come falling down. B+L was pretty broken before Valeant came along, but it is clear that Valeant has already put their acquisition of B+L in their rear view mirror and consider it done. The business is now being run by a bunch or spreadsheet MBAs who have no idea how to do anything beyond shuffling numbers and cutting jobs. Obviously this type of management will never be able to lead B+L to its full potential.
