Pros

I am being paid substantially more than I was at (ahem) another, comparable, hospital in Tampa. I like the administration better; it has a simpler hierarchy and the administrators seem more inclined to accept staff input into how the hospital should be run. By itself, my colleagues are excellent hard workers and there is a strong team mind-set most of the time. The hospital holds staff to an appropriate standard of practice, and patient safety is made a priority. The morals and ethics that this institution upholds, such as it's pro-life stance and other traditionally Christian and/or Catholic views, are two of its strongest draws for me. The benefits package is substantial and includes 3 options each for dental insurance and vision insurance, as well as two options for health insurance.

Cons

Physicians and even some MLPs are allowed to behave like power-hungry imbeciles. Burnt-out providers who don't want to put their own orders in are also allowed to bark at staff who are simply upholding standards of practice or policy and/or are concerned about patient safety and care. Providers are permitted to dump their tasks on RNs, which RNs then do for the benefit of the patient. They are allowed to take advantage of the strong sense of advocacy and urgency that the RNs have for the care of their patients. I even believe, in some cases, that MDs put their orders in incorrectly in the hopes that RNs will eventually just put in all the orders for them automatically so that it gets done right. I don't know what else to think at this point. If I could fix one thing with BayCare, this is it: providers need to be interacted with and to interact with colleagues in a team atmosphere, not as captains of an extremely unsound healthcare 'ship'. We are all part of a team, including the patient.

Pros

Easy to get a job there

Cons

The leadership sucks. There's basically a ship with no Captain. When you have people that have worked there for almost 6 years a (me) and I am one of the only employees in thatt Department that volunteers to get my CSIS Certification. Point being is we have managers. Coordinators. And leads. That have been there for a shorter period of time than I have. Most of the new people there are not dedicated are lazy and have no knowledge of half of the instruments in the department or what they're for.. people come to me all the time and ask questions. Because they know I'm qualified to give a good answer. But they should have more professional dedicated and serious team leaders to help with that department into shape because some of the shifts in that department are basically like a sinking ship. And if people like me don't stay overtime to finish work that other people are too lazy to do or make sure that everything is done properly before I leave sometimes I wonder if everything would get done in time for the morning procedures Very few employees in that department are as dedicated as they should be. It's not a hangout. It's not a place to chit chat with your girlfriends talk about other people in the department or try to start arguments because they're immature. Get rid of the lazy troublemakers !
