Pros
The biggest pro is the mid-level employees (not management). There are some truly great people there - some of the best I’ve worked with. The corporate office is large and very clean. The company is growing so jobs are very secure. Tenure is a big thing there - employees come and they stay for a long time.
Cons
BayCare corporate is a great place to work if you’re an older person, or if you’re looking for an easy job that doesn’t require much of you. It’s like going backwards in time to corporate America 40-50 years ago. You’ll see signs on lace doilies next to a vase of fake flowers that say “shhh, be quiet” and talking or laughing in your cubicle is frowned upon. Extremely formal dress code. Women wear pantyhose to work. There are no casual Fridays except for rare fundraisers and you have to pay to wear jeans for the fundraiser. No work from home option. Really behind the times in all aspects. I remember sitting in a meeting and forecasting was introduced as a novel concept. They do things the same way they always have and don’t like change or new ideas. Way too many employees, each with a tiny realm of responsibility that they take very seriously, but it’s not challenging or rewarding. Employees are underutilized. It’s just monotonous work. I didn’t learn anything or grow in my career there. Departments are very siloed. Of all the managers, VPs, and Directors I met there, only a handful were qualified to be in the roles they were, and they should have been higher level than they were at but most likely would never be promoted. The company just needs to enter this century. Employees need to be allowed to have voices and opportunities to grow the company and push it forward, as well as develop themselves professionally. The BayCare health insurance is limited to their own BayCare network and it was AWFUL. Worst doctors ever. Prepare to lose every good doctor you’ve used because they won’t be in the BayCare network. Coverage is terrible also. You’ll pay a ton in uncovered medical expenses. It was the worst insurance I’ve ever had. Another con is the lack of young people there. Most employees are in their 50’s and above. No maternity leave - you have to use your PTO. But they’ll tell you they have paid maternity leave because they consider your PTO paid leave (2 weeks per year). For a medical corporation as large as BayCare, to offer no paid maternity leave is a slap in the face.
