Pros

Excellent organization. Great mission. Wonderful people.

Cons

Baystate Health senior leaders do not always walk the talk. We are a patient driven organization, however leadership appointments and key business decisions are often seem politically driven. Baystate has too many fluff leaders -- big title, huge salary, zero accountability. When it's time to tighten the belt, low level workers who are critical to service delivery are cut, but never the grossly overpaid administrative and physician leaders.

Pros

You have the opportunity to form great relationships with many different offices, patients, their caregivers, and providers.

Cons

Dependent upon which department you are the coordinator for, you may be expected to do the job of three different employees, all while continuing to keep your productivity high. When you are out on vacation or leave, you won’t have anyone to cover your work while you are out, and yet, you will, again, still be expected to not only catch up on all the work you missed while out, but continue to keep up on the work that continues to come in. That is, unless you have a manager who actually cares. Also dependent on your department, come time for your annual review, you may not even receive your review until it’s announced that a company-wide raise of 3% is being given. Your manager will then plan to meet with you, tell you that you’re only “meeting expectations,” and that “there’s always room for improvement,” and that if they were to give you a raise, or say that you “exceed expectations,” there would be no more room for raises in the future. Also, do not ask for any opportunities for growth or advancement of your education if you’re a student - you’ll be told that because it’s not within your scope of responsibilities, you’re unable to shadow, or accept any opportunities of advancement. But don’t worry - your manager will take every opportunity to advance their own career, depending on who it is.
