Pros
Satisfying to work directly with families invested in children's development. Hourly rate as a Behavior Therapist wasn't bad compared to other similar places. Lots of skills to add to a resume, report/assessment writing, graphing, analysis of data, supervisory experience. Gives a basis for ABA.
Cons
In-home isn't for everyone. Fee-for-service means that when people cancel, you get sick, want to take time off - you don't get paid. And people will cancel. Last minute cancellations are hard to fill up. As a behavior therapist (BT), you are capped off at 4 BT hrs per case so any time over that you bill at a lower hourly rate (Associate BT). The benefits are awful especially when you want to take time off. As a BT, expect to do ALOT of work outside of the direct care for reports, graphs, etc. You do not bill for this time, it is included in "collateral hours" that you get for every 5 hrs worked with kids, however you end up doing WAY more than what you're getting paid for. This should be salary.
