Pros
Company Values: Personal integrity is a requirement here and it is one of the pieces that makes me so proud to work at Beacon. Employees and resident issues are a given in a place of business and Beacon is truly committed to doing the "right" thing in resolving either type of issue. I can engage in conversation with my residents having confidence that if there is a problem, the company will support me in taking care of the resident. With that said, we also hold people accountable when appropriate. Our new CEO really seems to "get it" and I believe we are well on our way to building an incredibly high-performance culture with the continued leadership of our existing executive team. The People: I have an incredible support system at Beacon, including peers and leadership, and enjoy being a support to my peers. My immediate supervisor has spent countless hours one-on-one with my peers and me investing in our growth, development and success. I've also been given the opportunity to work with individuals in the organization that would have simply been inaccessible to me at other management firms I have worked at via travel to industry trade shows/education conferences, both local and those requiring travel by air, working closely with other internal departments to broaden my knowledge, attending Beacon's Annual Meeting (where once a year for three days a large part of the company convenes and participates in various training classes, team building events and miscellaneous seminars) and taking classes (during work hours!) to obtain an industry credential. Time Off: We have most generous time-off package I have seen for new employees. In addition, it is common for us to receive unscheduled half days and bonus days off during the summer months. We have good health care coverage and other benefits such as drop in emergency child care at a low cost, etc. Compensation: I believe I am compensated fairly for my position.
Cons
Staffing: The sites never seem to get ahead. It is difficult on the smaller sites to have enough staff to get things done timely without being overwhelmed and still yield the returns that the owners/investors are expecting. I believe that most people in the company really want the asset and the company to be successful and are willing to work hard to do so. We just need to be cautious that those people aren't overwhelmed to the point that they become difficult to retain. Senior management has been listening to the staff and seems to actively be working through solutions to this.
