Pros

Best Buy was such a fun and ever-changing work environment. Getting to talk about new and emerging tech surprisingly never really gets old. The culture is great and you will form some amazing friendships with your coworkers. I always had great managers that understood that business needs and employee needs were equally important. As for career advancement you get what you give. Since best buy does not operate on a commission sales platform you need to be very internally motivated (no commission, poor line level bonus structure) to get promoted. However if your are internally motivated you will thrive and be promoted very fast. Once in a leadership role the bonus potential improves dramatically and you get to start working towards building a fun and challenging career in sales.

Cons

Of course the usual con in retail is your work life balance, particularly during the holidays, but that just goes with the territory. The real issue I would always have is around how "average" best buy is with pay for their line level associates. When I walk into many of the other retail competitors none of them, aside from maybe an apple store, require the same level of product knowledge and customer engagement that a best buy associate gives. Keep in mind places that offer commission are excluded because that is their pay incentive. Best buy does offer a bonus possibility for its employees but for a line level associate its a bit hard to get on a regular basis. And lastly since it is a sales job you will be micromanaged often around sales performance. if you have a bad manager this can be a nightmare, but with a great manager it can be very empowering in developing yourself as a great salesperson and future leader.

Pros

No Need to sell or deal with customers (Much) Constantly moving so you always have a task to do Management leaves you to your own devices Almost all warehouse employees have a set of headphone

Cons

Everyone (Cust & employees) Expect an encyclopedic knowledge on where every single item is. Management seems to think we can lift a 85" tv, pull a washer off the top shelf, stock gaming shelves, and handle store pick up at the same moment. Customers think we don't want to help them when we call someone else to help with sales There's almost too much to do and even though we may have 1-3 employees working at a time, 1 is at the door, 1 is behind store pick up, which leaves 1 employee to handle new orders, deliveries, and down stocking.
