Pros

In my 18 years as a developer, working on the Vuebill project, and at Billtrust, has been an absolute privilege....this might sound cheesy or fake, but it really has been for me. I've work at a wide range of places, and none of them can compare to this company, and this program, at this point in time. Its given me the opportunity to showcase my experience and skill within an environment conducive to delivering results in a collegial way. This team works together well, and each contributor is given ample opportunity to shine and grow. Billtrust, in general, has an aura like it could be a tech giant someday. Other highlights: * Billtrust is the market leader in its space. * Great colleagues that are driven and commited to honing the next gen experience * Working with other tech leaders and SMEs across the organization is easy....99% will steer you in the right direction if you show initiative. * Colleagues that are cool * A competent, thoughtful and humane management team * Accessible CEO who's not above being challenged, or challeging back, in a respectful way. * Open PTO is great * No death marches * You can be as awesome as you want.

Cons

* Billtrust has a few aquisitions under its belt, so depending on which LOB you work under, experiences can vary. * Lots of legacy code (because we have a market-tested product), but we're constantly finding new ways to manage or replace it. * Hot jobs market means it can take a while to fill positions.

Billtrust Response

As a Developer, we appreciate your perspective on working at Billtrust, as we know the development team is at the heart of building our industry leading products. The altruism across the company is definitely noticeable; people here are genuinely happy to share their knowledge and help their teammates. We also love that people can be themselves and as you say ‘awesome is welcome’. Acquisitions are certainly a way to challenge us all; we know legacy code is not always fun to tackle but thank you for diligently pushing to integrate all of our technology systems and code to work together seamlessly. I do hope we can continue to recruit employees who will contribute to our positive atmosphere in the fastest timeframe possible; thanks for putting in extra effort while we seek out that talent. We will take the stay hungry and humble advice to heart. ~Derek Bluestone, SVP Product

Pros

Good payment platform for mid-market companies

Cons

If you’re an experienced sales rep, avoid this company. They’ve gone through multiple structural changes over the last year, and another one appears to be coming soon. The PE firm already cleaned house across leadership and brought in a brand new executive team with little to no experience selling accounting software. The organization feels extremely disorganized. Expect heavy micromanagement through tools like Gong and Force Management training. AEs are treated more like glorified BDRs, while SEs control most of the sales cycle. Even getting deals approved internally is painful, with layers of unnecessary approvals slowing everything down. Hardly anyone on the net new logo team made quota last year, and this year appears to be trending the same way. Territories are divided using poor Salesforce data. Out of roughly 250 assigned accounts, maybe 30 actually fit the ICP. Training is practically nonexistent after they let go of most of the training staff, and marketing is ineffective. The one positive I’ll give Billtrust is that the product itself is solid. However, implementation costs can be absurd, sometimes costing more than the subscription fees themselves.
