Good benefits and people, but inconsistent communication from leadership - Marketing Blavity Employee Review

Pros

Blavity has a solid benefits package that genuinely stood out. Benefits included free access to company events, a fully remote work environment, a learning and development budget, stock options, a sabbatical after five years of full-time work, generous PTO and sick time, strong medical and dental coverage, company-paid life and disability insurance, and volunteer days. Many employees don’t fully take advantage of all that’s offered, but the benefits are there and valuable. The teams I worked with were also a highlight. The people were talented, collaborative, and enjoyable to work with, and most teams had great personalities and deep expertise. Certainly was fun to hang out with my co workers when we were working events. Leadership was generally open to discussion and trusted employees to be subject matter experts, even if recommendations weren’t always acted on.

Cons

Despite how the company positions itself, this is not a people-first organization. Layoffs and terminations happen frequently and without warning, PIPs, or clear communication. It’s not uncommon to log on and discover someone no longer works there simply because they’re suddenly unavailable on Slack. Communication around company changes is inconsistent and often reactive. Decisions are frequently sprung on teams with little context, and last-minute initiatives are common, placing heavy pressure on teams to execute without adequate planning. Once leadership decides to move forward with something, teams are expected to make it happen regardless of workload impact. There is also very little recognition or appreciation for the work being done. Raises and promotions are rare/nonexistent, and it’s easy to get caught in a constant hustle mindset if you don’t set very firm boundaries. It can become overwhelming over time. There is room for improvement, but it was a decent job overall. The pay was good (at least in my experience), the benefits were strong, and the people were great. However, the constant fear of being laid off or fired without warning makes it difficult to feel secure long term.

Pros

The health insurance wasn't a nightmare to navigate.

Cons

Blavity's micromanagement was absolutely suffocating. I literally could not send a client email without someone questioning my word choice or demanding to know why I included that person on the thread. Every single decision got routed through some approval chain and nobody would even explain why they said no, just "not approved" and silence. I started to feel like my manager was waiting for me to fail, like the hiring process was a mistake and now I had to prove myself every single day all over again. By my third month there I completely stopped suggesting anything because every idea got was the kind of slow trust erosion where you don't notice it happening until you realize you've already mentally checked out.
