Pros
- at one point, the engineering team was made up of the smartest people I've ever met - the mission attracts really awesome people - lots of free food
Cons
- the whole mission is about putting "humans first", but senior leadership seems more focused on setting unrealistic deadlines and meeting them than providing users with a reliable product and good experience - senior leadership tends to make business decisions in a very reactive, impulsive way, which leads to chaos and high stress for the teams that have to execute on those decisions - the turnover rate within engineering is extremely high, even for a startup - as senior engineers quit, the company started hiring a lot of junior engineers. the result was that the remaining senior engineers had increased mentoring responsibilities beyond capacity (in addition to holding up codebases with rapidly growing tech debt), and incoming junior engineers didn't have enough mentorship - overall engineering quality/caliber has decreased dramatically in last few years
