Pros

Most of the employees who work (or worked) there (or in the German subsidiaries) are really great people. And the original vision and goals are really inspiring.

Cons

Never before in my professional life as software developer (>20 years) have I experienced how, despite sufficient financial basis and outstanding visions and an excellent development team, one project after the other is put into the sand. The upper management (CEO and his executive manager - both former lawyers) rule the company exclusively by distrust. This may be common in a law firm, but not in a high-tech company. They want to make every decision themselves, even though they have no deeper understanding of the technology. On top of that, there is no written communication at all from the CEO where he lays out his vision. So, after many years, no one can say exactly what he really wants. Even when a prototype has been built and Jeff has praised it to the skies, saying that this is exactly what he had in mind, a few weeks or month later it can be completely different and suddenly something else is very important and everything is thrown away and it is started again completely from the beginning - and all this without any explanation and without really taking the team with him. The personnel management is poor as well. Employees are at best working tools for Blockchains. Developers are hardly appreciated. Employee development is virtually non-existent. The only tool they know how to use is to hire and fire people. For many employees (especially those in the US), the constant fear of being kicked out overnight is permanent. Unfortunately, as said, the CEO has extremely ambitious visions, but is neither able to communicate them nor is he willing to place the necessary trust in the experts he has hired so that they can implement something (even if a plan is existing and approved). The same is true of the executive manager, who tries hard to bring the CEO's ideas to life but fails to provide any competent technical leadership due to his lack of deep technical understanding and inability to delegate responsibility. Since the CEO can't or doesn't want to cooperate with other companies, he simply buys companies he thinks might be needed, but there seems to be no plan behind it except to buy. This lack of plan is transferred to the developers, who simply do what they are told, without daring to be creative, as this is neither rewarded, but even carries the risk of falling out of favor with the CEO and being fired. Research teams have been formed several times - a synonym for its members for being fired with a high probability in the near future.

Pros

100% remote work and very talented teams to work with.

Cons

Every negative review here is accurate, ignore the sole 5-star one for obvious reasons. This company is run by a CEO/Founder and his inner circle of friends/ex-coworkers, none of whom seem to know how to manage or grow a business effectively. Despite being around for 8+ years, they've made no progress in deploying any product. The company has had so many great product ideas and an ambitious vision, only for the CEO to abruptly scrap everything, lay off entire departments, and decide to start over from scratch. Layoffs are an annual tradition here, each year another department, and in the last round the entire company, or just about, is gone. It’s a pattern that seems sustainable only because the CEO is personally wealthy. Adding to the dysfunction, the company's NDAs and non-compete clauses are laughable. They attempt to enforce non-competes, which are illegal in many states (and even punishable in some). It’s absurd considering there's no actual product to compete against. Even worse, they forbid employees from mentioning they were laid off—another violation of legal standards. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of this company. There are far better opportunities out there. No 401k matching No health insurance coverage for the first 3 months 10 days PTO (including sick time, bereavement, or jury duty) Minimum holidays paid No compensation for internet or career classes The benefits list is so short that they had to add "casual dress" as a benefit even though everyone was remote!
