Pros

It's a great introduction to education. Everyone I've worked with at Blueprint has been extremely kind and hardworking. The team is the best I've ever worked with. The benefits, deferring student loans, and the education grant you get if you join Americorps are all nice to have.

Cons

The hours are rough, at least for in person fellows, it could be better online. You get one personal day, so if you have an emergency and need to be off work for anything except you being sick, you're hosed. Fellows day to day is largely controlled by the school they're at, not blueprint. That means if the school you're with is not used to fellows and doesn't have an established program yet, your schedule will be chaos. If you are in person, and your manager is not there's just not a lot of support they can give you even if they try. The pay is bad. I understood what it would be before I started, but it didn't sink in for a while that I was making less than I could make with a part time job at Target, while working 45 hour weeks.

Thank You for Your Service in Oakland Thank you for sharing your experience and for the three years you dedicated to our students in Oakland. It is wonderful to hear that you found your time as a Lead Math Fellow rewarding and that you felt supported by your colleagues. Your commitment played a vital role in helping our students build their math skills and confidence. We appreciate your honesty regarding the daily realities of working in a classroom. Supporting students through the challenges of adolescence requires immense patience and resilience. We aim to ensure our Fellows feel equipped for these moments through ongoing coaching and collaborative team support, and we value the grace you showed in navigating those disruptions to keep the focus on learning. Regarding your feedback on compensation, we understand the importance of balancing mission-driven work with the cost of living, particularly in the Bay Area. We are continuously looking for ways to enhance the overall Fellow experience—including professional development and AmeriCorps benefits like the Segal Education Award—to ensure our team feels valued for the incredible impact they make. Thank you again for your hard work and for being a part of the Blueprint community. We wish you the very best in your next chapter!
