Pros

Strong support from coordinator on how to best teach students. Teacher calendar - I really love the vacation time at Christmas and Spring Break. Working with small groups of students helped me learn how to manage adolescents and build strong relationships. I have learned strategies that will I take with me into my own classroom next year. OH - and the 100% paid health insurance really helped me this year.

Cons

Not everyone understands that this is a year of service - that can create some problems with people who complain a lot. We had a lot of challenges this year with technology and resources --- the leadership team needs to make share that fellows always have everything they need to do their jobs. (I can't put attendance online daily if you don't provide me with the technology to actually do it.) They stipend is on $2,000 per month but I knew that going into the position.

Thank You for Your Service in Oakland Thank you for sharing your experience and for the three years you dedicated to our students in Oakland. It is wonderful to hear that you found your time as a Lead Math Fellow rewarding and that you felt supported by your colleagues. Your commitment played a vital role in helping our students build their math skills and confidence. We appreciate your honesty regarding the daily realities of working in a classroom. Supporting students through the challenges of adolescence requires immense patience and resilience. We aim to ensure our Fellows feel equipped for these moments through ongoing coaching and collaborative team support, and we value the grace you showed in navigating those disruptions to keep the focus on learning. Regarding your feedback on compensation, we understand the importance of balancing mission-driven work with the cost of living, particularly in the Bay Area. We are continuously looking for ways to enhance the overall Fellow experience—including professional development and AmeriCorps benefits like the Segal Education Award—to ensure our team feels valued for the incredible impact they make. Thank you again for your hard work and for being a part of the Blueprint community. We wish you the very best in your next chapter!
