Pros

Made friends with fellow staff over mutual distaste for the company

Cons

-Highly disorganized and overworked management: absolutely nothing is thought through from the hasty build-out of stores to the erratic hiring process -No trust of employees. Cameras in every store that are constantly watched for punishable behaviors like “not looking busy” or “sitting.” -Values aesthetics over quality, half of the baristas can’t pull a decent shot, the pastries and food are nasty and days old and marked up to the stratosphere. -No room for advancement, even if you really care about hospitality or coffee you have to settle for incremental wage increases unless you’re friends with Nick. Even the Aussies I worked with are paid less then they were promised and trapped by their work visas. -Corporate team does not take suggestions.

Pros

It's a job, you get paid. The drinks and food are good too, and you get a free meal on your lunch break.

Cons

The base salary is 11.50, customer tips are expected to cover the rest of the gap between that and the current minimum wage, which is enough pocket money for a teenager but is not enough to sustain an adult living in NYC. They're also a bit understaffed. New employee training is messy and unstructured and you are expected to know much of it on your own. Employees do basic cleaning every day, but the cafe desperately needed a deeper cleaning. All of the shelves, bathroom plants, and bathroom wall trim had a fairly thick layer of dust, and the furniture was clearly very used. The place just never felt fully clean.
