Pros
Decent pay, decent benefits, nothing to take home other than stress, heartburn, and anxiety.
Cons
The lab is a sweatshop factory. Cramped, dingy, poorly lit. with unrealistic turn around time expectations. The techs are stressed, grumpy, and over worked. The information system is antiquated and written as if by coders with ridiculously complicated codes for even the simplest of tasks. The instrumenation is over engineered for what is essentially an extremely busy stat lab. You will spend three hours a day running QC on these huge machines only to run about 50 to 100 samples per shift. When Bon Secour merged with Mercy they took away a full time med tech position, leaving one poor soul to run all of blood bank alone. Scary mistakes waiting to happen. Very high employee turn over , poor training opportunity because of the stressful nickle-and-dime workflow. Management is sympathetic but not very effective in making any positive changes.
