The people are very nice and those that love what they do are great at it.
Cons
It's a very strange place where there is a stark disconnect between management and employees, and I would imagine disconnect amongst senior management itself. The entire company is encased in this completely surface level facade of positivity, opportunity, 'everything's alright, we're doing great, business as usual!' But the company's actions tell a different story. Senior management consistently (and I mean, at every opportunity) use Sotheby's and Christie's as benchmarks for comparative analysis. We are basically instructed to compare ourselves to Christie's and Sotheby's in every way, except when it comes to pay, resources, talent........ We are always reminded of how we need to be doing just as well as other houses, but management conveniently forgets that we don't have the resources, we don't have the departments, they don't pay enough, and therefore cannot attract the talent needed to get to that place. In fact, those that are committed to bringing results do so, significantly, and are met with words of praise. Unfortunately, words of praise don't pay my bills, and I feel taken advantage of. I am being asked to outperform competition with absolutely no support! I have over the past 3 years led impressive and significant sales for this company and when, after 3 years of zero pay adjustment (even minimally), I asked for my salary to be reviewed, I was met hard stop and treated as if that was a completely outlandish request. Please note that I am middle management here. It's all very disheartening. It's clear senior management has zero idea how hard it is to work under these conditions, or perhaps most likely, they just don't care.
