Pros

Great people Great office Transparent CEO (to some extent)

Cons

EMEA VP has clear favourites and trying to push others out the business. Just be honest with these people if they’re not a fit for you. No trust between EMEA leadership and AEs. Management want to be in on all opportunities but point fingers when it doesn’t close and take the credit when it does. Not a con but culture at Box was key however to get to the next phase of growth that needed to change and has and is changing to be a more metric driven - calls, meetings, pipeline etc. I get this is key but they need to understand culture will be lost and this needs to be accepted.

The company’s focus on AI-powered content management, security, and workflow automation keeps you close to where the market is heading, which builds highly transferable skills. At the same time, the culture tends to emphasize collaboration, autonomy, and ownership, giving you room to develop your own strategies (like your targeted campaigns and use-case-driven outreach) while still having the backing of a well-established platform with strong product-market fit.

Cons

Working at Box isn’t without its challenges—one of the biggest is that the product can be harder to differentiate at a surface level, especially against tools like Microsoft (SharePoint/OneDrive) or Dropbox, which means you have to work much harder in sales to educate prospects on deeper workflow and security value. Sales cycles can be long and complex, requiring patience and persistence with multiple stakeholders. Internally, like many growing tech companies, priorities and messaging can shift as new products (AI, Extract, etc.) roll out, which can create some ambiguity. And because Box is a platform play, success often depends on how well customers adopt and expand usage, so deals don’t always feel “done” at close—you’re thinking long-term from day one.
