A Pinnacle of Bad Management - Manager Boyd Gaming Employee Review

Everyone tauts #BoydStyle but that just isn't the case anymore. There is a 24/7 work expectation that I've discovered persists in most departments. Management will specifically check in during normal lunch break hours to make sure you skipped your state-mandated break, and will call you out in group settings if you're found not to be there. I was frequently contacted on weekends as well, and had to respond within 5 minutes to avoid getting in trouble. On one such occasion, I was actually threatened with a write-up by having to be texted after the 5-minute mark, rather than responding to an email immediately on my day off. Because management is very insistent that every second of your time belongs to the company, it became unsafe to put in vacation requests, ultimately leading to me quitting just so I had a moment to breathe again. Management also does not like to be disagreed with, and once you make your opinions known to them it becomes their mission in life to make you miserable. The political games played at this company are worse than any I've experienced before. They do not listen to their employees, and will specifically task them with responsibilities they did not sign up to do while offboarding the tasks they were hired for over to third party vendors. If you have the audacity to be forward-thinking, you will catch management sneaking around behind your back with HR to find the most inconvenient way to get your position with the company removed. HR does not have your back at this company, and will simply aim to distract you by making you run around in circles calling random phone numbers while paperwork is being filed for your termination. I've also found management to be rather insensitive, especially with the issues COVID has brought on. Employees were mandated to be in the office after most of the state had shut down, and even when they were allowed to work from home there was no trust from anyone in leadership. The in-office status has changed several times, with it finally settling on being work from home, but it likely won't stay that way. Management is very insistent that people cannot bond unless they see each other in person, and the activities that have been forced upon the employees in the absence of that consist of quite demoralizing questions that seem only to depress people - especially knowing that they will be written up if they do not participate. Additionally, between the expectations for the dress code and mandatory webcam sessions, it's impossible to feel secure in one's image. Management makes a special point to comment on hairstyles and outfits of every person during every call, and remind people specifically of the type of footwear that needs to be worn even when at home. Men frequently were told they needed to trim their beards, and women frequently were told they needed to put on more makeup. This sort of call-out in a group setting, or even one on one, is unreasonable and discriminatory, and made every day uncomfortable. Overall, the environment has become toxic. This is not a workplace it is safe to be honest in; you must agree with every inhumane thing said or risk being under management's political radar. Even when sticking to every letter of the Boyd law, it's impossible to escape the constant scrutiny. Every day became about tracking exact timestamps of emails and responses, having to defend oneself to their manager when inevitably a complaint was filed against you for something you didn't do. If you choose to work here, expect to pledge every second of your life to a company that does not care for you in the slightest and will go out of their way to make sure you do not enjoy your job, and start becoming accustomed to the extreme amount of stress that will be placed on you at every turn.
