Pros
Braille Institute provides employees with a unique experience to help a segment of the population who often go unnoticed. Serving blind and visually impaired people is a rewarding experience. Nice facilities along with some dedicated staff are a plus.
Cons
Times have been "turbulent" at Braille Institute for awhile. Employee morale is incredibly low, senior management is detached and frankly, clueless, the board is even more detached and clueless and the fundraising model is crumbling. The past year has seen layoffs, budget cuts, and continued mission drift. The corporate culture has changed drastically during recent years. The "old Braille," personal and familial, has been replaced by a cold, bureaucratic leadership bent on trimming the fat even if it cuts into the bone.
