Pros
You find a love for the clients that is not replaceable. Most of the time your so busy that time on shift flies by.
Cons
cons? this place is full of cons. Managers are stretched so thin they work for then 20 hours a day, making it only possible to catch sleep at the homes. Pay is no good, unless you are stretching yourself thin and not spending anytime with your own family, you wont have any money to get back and forth to the site with gas charges. Higher managers don't have a heart for the workers or clients. Benefits are way too expensive to afford, for you or your family. College students and young people who have no experience with caretaking are what mostly make up the direct support, leaving the people who know what they are doing to do everything and the unexperienced to sleep on the couch and just be a warm body. They do not follow the basic guide book, unless they don't need you. Some break rules and get away with it, others get fired right on spot. There is not enough recognition for the staff that spend most hours of their life with these people. There are no pay raises or no option of one when moving up in the company.
