Pros

Some of the people there are great. They don’t stay long, but Brilliant Earth does hire a good bunch for the most part. It also wasn’t always terrible to work there.

Cons

This company thinks it’s a privilege for you to work there. And it’s not. That’s really a root cause of a lot of their problems. They believe their employees are ungrateful for complaining about anything. Whether it’s a terrible PTO policy or being overworked HR just marks the employee as problematic, rather than trying to fix problems.Any reported problems are considered the the fault of the employee, not the company. This is why verbally abusive managers have stayed at this company, HR will not take any complaints about them seriously. They truly believe that you are privileged to work there, and there is nothing wrong with company culture or the upper management. They will keep on verbally abusive or incompetent managers, and will even promote them. This has happened at least once, but has probably happened multiple times. Company culture is very bad. There are theoretically the “pillars of culture” but it’s a joke. Considering how much time HR and upper management spends manipulating employees, and I think “honesty and integrity” is supposed to be a pillar? Upper management will frequently lie or manipulate employees to taking on additional duties or a different role. This is something that will be pitched as “temporary” or “you won’t be doing this alone”. This is also normally done with little to no pay increase. Reminding management of their promises will do nothing, particularly if you’ve already agreed to do the additional work or role. If your manager is good, they might fight to help you, but that’s not particularly common. Most people are overworked, and stretched to the breaking point. It’s not uncommon to work through lunch, or work longer than a 40 hour week. While that’s understandable occasionally, company culture makes it appear to be an expected part of your workday. There is no support system, particularly for non-sales people. Most other teams are kept as small as possible, which keeps people overworked. This is why there are so many fake reviews, or they are now pushing people to write positive ones. It’s pretty commonly said in most negative glassdoor reviews, but most of these are written by HR or upper management. This is something I was able to confirm this with multiple other former employees. Sales is probably treated the best out of all the teams, but they also do have some of the highest turn over because they also have ridiculously high sales goals at times. However, sales is regularly taught that they have the most important job at the company, as well as the fact the sales team does not have to fix their mistakes. If you are in a non-sales department, you will be cleaning up after them at some point. Honestly, this place is my workplace horror story. This company has had extremely high turnover in the last few years because of how they treated their employees. The company pretends to care about it’s employees as people, but it’s pretty apparent that they don’t. There is a lot of big talk about “we want to help you” and no follow through. You also might have conversations where you give your opinions believing that they will be kept confidential. This is untrue. If you find yourself overwhelmed, I'd advise not mentioning to a manager unless you truly trust them.

Pros

You meet wonderful people and get to learn about jewelry.

Cons

Horrible pay in comparison to how much we are supposed to sell, management is constantly on everyone about numbers even when you hit your goals, no incentives to do better, no growth, not transparent enough, etc.
