Pros

Working in the Music Biz is very enticing from the outside. The reality is that it is a pale shade of its former glory. BMI sits in a rare position that has allowed it to grow through the 2000s when the rest of the industry has contracted. Some of the perks are still present such as expense accounts, summer hours and casual Fridays. The company is respected within the industry and it treats musicians fairly. Its great to be on the "good" side of the business.

Cons

Despite growth in revenues for over a decade, the company has not passed on this success to its employees. The management is clueless and likely has squandered its windfall from the past decade. Cutbacks are ever present and extend right down to office supplies. Since the company is in such a niche area, the name is hardly recognized outside of industry circles.

Pros

Insight into the nitty gritty of copyright/music licensing. Great learning experience for overcoming objections, empathetic listening, and music law.

Cons

Feels like collections more than music industry. Strict quotas with limited guidance. Need to have thick skin to gain anything at all from this job.
