Pros
Broadway builds incredibly interesting and complex software in finance, a field which is nuanced and has a high level of risk. I count this as a pro because it means the work doesn't get boring, and it is meaningful to its users. Our reputation in the business is very good, which speaks to the quality of work and service as well. Broadway is also attempting to solve broad problems outside of finance, which is exciting. There are opportunities for leadership and initiative, which get rewarded if done well. A lot of times, people pitch in where needed if they have the capacity instead of staying heads-down on their projects, making for a collaborative work environment. Leadership is fairly transparent. As Broadway has gone through different phases of growth, we have felt all sorts of growing pains. Each time the leadership has identified these pains and communicated solutions to the entire company. Not everything gets solved all at once, but processes are rolled out as needed. The people are great. I genuinely enjoy being around my coworkers. We often have work-sponsored events and a good number of people usually go out. A lot of people also meet informally outside of the office. I'm especially proud of how welcoming we are when someone new joins the team.
Cons
Employees need some level of self-management, which may be true at any company. Since the organization remains pretty flat, the ratio of employees to managers is high. Employees need to identify opportunities they're interested in and make sure they can prioritize all of the things they have on their plates. Time can really run away from you at the office if you're not paying attention.
